Aus Liebe, otherwise referred to as Aus Liebe Will Mein Heiland Sterben..., was originally written for the 2019 Longy's Divergent Studio. It was premiered by soprano Corrine Byrne, oboe Kemp Jernigan, and piano Donald Berman. This piece responds to the music of J.S. Bach and his monumental St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244 by taking the text librettist Christian Friedrich Heinrici, pen name "Picander," wrote for Bach. Largely its own work based on the same reverence and love the original Bach aria had, this piece utilizes several minor allusions to Bach's original aria, acting as ghosts in the room to its original famous older brother.
