Groove Music

Groove Music was written for Imani Winds as part of Mostly Modern Festival 2018. Written in rondeau form, the quintet sets up an off-kilter groove in an alternating meter while other sections of the piece interject, from a chorale with descant to a section where the voices solo over flute beatboxing. It is not a serious piece; the performers get into a groove, and so does the audience. Pay attention for a famous and funny quote near the end!
