Twin Colors for Two Similar Instruments is the first piece I composed using nonstandard notation after hearing a lecture from acclaimed American experimentalist Christian Wolff. Two instruments play this piece; the only stipulation is that they are similar to each other in how they produce sound. The score is a series of colors, shapes, and lines that direct the two players very minimally: explicitly, the score shows when to come together, when to drift apart, and that over time new ideas must come into play. Other than that, the performers are entirely free to decide how everything manifests.
